Anti-wrinkle injections work by using the botulinum toxin A (Botox®) to relax facial muscles so that existing lines are softened, and new lines are prevented, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Botox® works by temporarily blocking signals between facial nerves and muscles, relaxing and preventing muscle contractions which create fine lines and wrinkles.
The most common areas treated with Botox are the frown lines, forehead, and crows feet lines around the eyes. Extremely fine needles are used so minimal discomfort is caused. Maximal effects are seen at 2 weeks with movement of the muscle beginning to recover from about 8 weeks. Results last on average 3-4 months. Botox® has been used safely for over 40 years and many studies have proven its safety if administered by qualified practitioners.
